Tom Penfold took the honours in the 12th University of Birmingham 5km Road Race in a time of 15min 18sec, just managing to squeeze home ahead of second-placed Tim Egerton. Ian Rawlinson finished third – six seconds behind the winner.
The first woman across the line was Gemma Miles in 16min 39sec, with Charlotte Penfold second (17min 44sec) and Jodie Stimpson third (17min 54 sec),
Aron Pye, aged 16, won the 2km fun run for the second year in succession. The first under-16 boy was Phillip Maddocks, aged 12, and the first girl was Abbie Saker, aged eight.
Nearly 600 people took part to raise money for the Acorns Children’s Hospice, Selly Oak, Birmingham. Pete Hinton, Race Organiser, said: “The event continues to grow in popularity, and once again I would like to thank all the runners and helpers for their fantastic support.”
